What you need to know
If you're installing small-scale electricity generation (such as solar panels or wind turbines) with a capacity of 3.68kW or less per phase, the G98 process simplifies the connection to the electricity grid.
Steps to follow
1. Install your generation equipment
Your installer must ensure the system complies with G98 standards, including using certified inverters and components
2. Notify us
Once installed, you must submit the G98 – Form B to us within 28 days of commissioning
3. Verification
We will review the submission and confirm whether the connection meets G98 requirements or if any further action is needed
When do you need prior approval?
You must apply before you connect if:
- There is more than one generator at a single property
- Another property within the same postcode (ignoring the last two digits, e.g., PH1 2xx) has had generation installed within the last 28 days by the same installer
- The total generation at a site exceeds the G98 limits
What information do we need?
To process your application, you need to provide:
- Property details: Address and Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) if available
- Generation capacity: The proposed total capacity of the installed generation (kW)
- Inverter Type Test Certificate: The power rating (kW) on the certificate must match the inverter rating shown on the schematic diagram
Next steps
You will need to download and complete the G98 - Form B and email it to south.microgen@sse.com.
Once we have all the required information, we will register your project and pass the details to our connections designers for review.
